The Newt is exceptional. In the making for six years, it opened in August 2019 with admirably little fanfare since the owners, South African Koos Bekker and his wife Karen Roos, prefer to share their creation rather than boast about it. Since then, further accommodation and attractions have been added, creating a magical countryside resort. Scholarship, authenticity and money-no-object attention to detail underpins the attractions so that, thus far, they stay the right side of Disney-esque.
