At after 2 a.m. today(01/05/2023), police responded to a welfare check at an address on Lygon Street in Carlton and found him deceased inside.

On 1 January 2017, Zonfrillo married his third wife, Lauren Fried. The couple met on Twitter in October 2014. In February 2018, Fried and Zonfrillo had a son who was born two months premature and weighed only 1.2 kgs.

To his family, “Jock was known to Australians as a chef, best-selling author, philanthropist, and MasterChef judge, but he will be best remembered as a loving father, husband, brother, and son,” a statement from Network 10 and Endemol Shine Australia said.
“Determined and talented and with plenty of grit, Jock was born in Glasgow to an Italian father and a Scottish mother, which meant his formative years were heavily influenced by two strong cultures, and it was his obsession with food and desire for a new pushbike that fueled Jock to knock on kitchen doors looking for a job when he was only 12 years old.”It’s impossible to put a price on Jock’s charisma, wit, generosity, passion, and love for food and his family.
He will be sorely missed by all of us.
At the age of 15, Zonfrillo was one of the youngest apprentice chefs at Scotland’s The Turnberry Hotel, and by the time he was 17, he was working under Marco Pierre White.
In 2019, the Scottish host joined Melissa Leong and Andy Allen, both of whom are chefs, on MasterChef.
His life as a heroin addict and chef in London before relocating to Australia in the year 2000 were chronicled in a memoir titled Last Shot, published in 2021.
