A fitness coach and nutrition specialist has been granted bail after he allegedly choked a woman and threatened to kill her.

Joshua Colin Giffin, 33, was charged in February with choking, assault occasioning bodily harm, wilful damage of a wall, using a carriage service to threaten and possession of testosterone.

He appeared in Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday.

The Crown alleges Mr Giffin was in the Brisbane suburb of Windsor on February 6 when he allegedly punched a wall near the woman four times, leaving holes in the plasterboard.

The woman allegedly then left before receiving several text messages from Mr Giffin, the court was told.

It’s alleged he told the woman that he would kill her and “slit her f--king throat”.

The woman allegedly replied, saying she would call police, to which Mr Giffin allegedly texted back, “I don’t give a f--k, I’ll f--king kill them too.”

A short time later, the court was told, Mr Giffin allegedly caught up with the woman and grabbed her by the throat and squeezed for about four seconds, restricting her breathing.

He then allegedly punched her on top and back for the head.

It’s also alleged Mr Giffin sent threatening messages to the woman between February 5-7.

Justice Lincoln Crowley said the Crown prosecution case against Mr Giffin was strong, with the alleged choking and punching incident having been captured on CCTV.

“The injuries and violence inflicted upon the complainant are not insignificant. It occurred in circumstances where it appears there was an escalation of a verbal disagreement which quickly turned into an outburst of rage on behalf of the applicant,” he said.

Justice Crowley granted bail on the condition Mr Giffin live with his sister on the Sunshine Coast.

Mr Giffin must not contact the complainant and must report to the Nambour Police Station twice a week.

He will next appear before court – where he also faces a charge of possessing a prohibited drug – on December 12 for further mention.
