Short Info

Who is Kathryn Morris?

Born on 28 January 1969, in Cincinnati, Ohio, under the air sign of Aquarius, Kathryn Morris is a 50-year-old American actress. She made her debut in the 1991 tele-movie “Long Road Home”, but rose to fame by playing Lieutenant Annalisa Lindstrom in the hit TV show “Pensacola: Wings of Gold”. Fans also know her for her collaborations with Steven Spielberg in “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence” (which didn’t work out, but more on that later) and “Minority Report”. However, despite appearing in critically acclaimed movies, her most notable role is that of detective Lilly Rush in CBS’ “Cold Case”, a police drama which centers around a special team within the Philadelphia Police Department, focused on solving long-forgotten cases. While she didn’t quite capitalize on and land any Hollywood roles after “Minority Report”, Kathryn is respected by her peers and fans, due to an uncanny amount of charisma and versatility.

Early Life and Education: Growing Up in a Christian Family

Kathryn was born into an American family, in the third biggest city in the state of Ohio. Her mother Joyce was an insurance agent and her father, Stanley, was a Bible scholar. It turns out that faith was the centerpiece in the everyday life of the Morris family. Unlike regular children, Kathryn didn’t grow up in a single city or neighborhood, but instead she and her family moved around frequently during her childhood, mostly because they were members of a gospel group entitled “The Morris Code”. They were relatively popular, and toured in many of the more conservative states in the south-eastern part of the US. However, most of Kathryn’s teenage years were spent in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, with her five siblings, where she matriculated from high school in 1988. Afterwards she attended two colleges – Northwestern Christian College and Temple University, both of which are near the city of Philadelphia, which would end up defining her career. Due to her early experiences as a singer and performer, Kathryn realized that the arts were to be her vocation, and she was ready to do anything to make her dreams come true. However, she almost never got the chance to fulfill them.

An Unusual Beginning to Her Career

After matriculating from high school, Kathryn wasn’t really devoted to her college studies and there is no conclusive information about whether she actually graduated, or how much time she spent there. At one point, she decided to move to Los Angeles, as having been a prominent actress in various high school plays, Morris wanted to seize every opportunity. She managed to land her first audition, for a small part in a Japanese Music video based on the hit 1971 musical “Grease”, however, on her way to the casting, she was hit by another driver who eventually fled the scene. Miraculously, Kathryn was uninjured, and even made it to the set. It is unknown whether she got the part or not, but the young actress took this good luck as a sign from above – a definite sign that she should be an actress.

Getting Her First Roles: Long Road Home, Cool as Ice and Pensacola: Wings of Gold

Kathryn debuted with the role of Billy Jo Robertson in “Long Road Home”, a small-time television movie, and followed-up with roles in “Cool as Ice”, “Rise and Walk: The Dennis Byrd Story” and “Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All”. While these were all smaller roles, they gave Kathryn the opportunity to make a name for herself, and slowly work her way up the ranks of the film industry. After appearances in “Sweet Justice” and “Murder, She Wrote”, Morris got her big break – in 1997 and ‘98, she played the role of Stinger in “Pensacola: Wings of Gold”, the action drama which centers around the life and times of the men and women stationed at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. Critics praised Kathryn for her exceptional performance, which opened a lot of doors for her. Interestingly, she also made an appearance in “As Good as It Gets”, an Oscar-winning film; while her role was merely a cameo as a mental patient, it showed directors and producers that she was malleable as an actress, and willing to fit into any collective.

Continued Success: Xena: Warrior Princess, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence and Minority Report

For her role as Najara in the hit fantasy show “Xena: Warrior Princess”, she amassed a lot of fans; even though her role was a small one, it definitely resounded with the show’s following. Afterwards, she was seen in “Deterrence”, “Providence” and “Hell Swarm”, however, her biggest break came when she was cast as Teenage Honey in Steven Spielberg’s “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence”. There is an interesting story surrounding this particular movie – Kathryn was supposed to have a major role which involved a performance where she would sing and play guitar in front of more than 1,000 people. At one point, Spielberg decided that he wasn’t going to include that scene, which broke Kathryn’s heart. ‘I worked my butt off”, she said. ‘I took guitar lessons and singing lessons’. Eventually, Spielberg felt bad because of this injustice, so he came up with an idea. As “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence” was in post-production, Steven was ready to shoot “Minority Report”, and he offered Kathryn the leading role, an opportunity to play the wife of Tom Cruise’s character. Needless to say, she accepted the offer and ended up impressing everyone with the finest performance in her entire career.

A True Star: Cold Case, Assassination of a High School President and More

In 2003, Kathryn was still fresh off her success starring next to Tom Cruise; thus, she was invited to audition for the lead role in “Cold Case”, a crime drama on CBS. She astonished the producers and directors with her versatility, so got the role almost immediately. As time would show, Detective Lilly Rush became synonymous with Kathryn’s acting career, as she delivered one stellar performance after another, spanning over the course of seven seasons and 156 episodes.

Around this time, she would also appear in “Cougars Inc.”, “The Coin”, “The Perfect Guys” and other less popular movies and TV shows. Her last significant role was in “Reverie” as Monica Shaw. After a hectic two-decade period, Kathryn decided to dial it down a little, and act only sporadically. Needless to say, with a body of work like the one she has – it’s completely deserved.

Personal Life: Is Kathryn Morris Married? Does She Have Any Children?

Kathryn is married to Johnny Messner; interestingly, they met when Messner was invited to make a guest appearance in “Cold Case” -they exchanged their vows during a private ceremony in 2010. On 8 April 2013, the happy couple announced that they were expecting not one, but two baby boys, and on 21 August Kathryn gave birth to Rocco and Jameson. Both Kathryn and her husband support and promote “Toys for Tots”, a charity aimed at providing underprivileged children toys and presents for Christmas. Before Messner, Morris was in a relationship with Randy Hamilton. Even though they were supposed to marry, their relationship fell apart in 2004.

Body Measurements: How Tall is Kathryn Morris?

Kathryn Morris is 5ft 7ins (170cms) tall, weighs approximately 120lbs (55kgs), and her vital statistics are 34-26-35. She has blue eyes and blonde hair.

Did She Undergo Plastic Surgery?

In the early 2010s, there was speculation that Kathryn decided to undergo surgical procedures on her face. Using a comparative analysis method on her photos, fans and experts have agreed that she must have had at least a facelift, in addition to her obvious Botox injections. Morris neither confirmed nor denied the allegations, which might seem like she indeed went “under the knife”.

Net Worth: How Rich is Kathryn Morris?

According to several credible sources, Kathryn Morris has a net worth of approximately $4 million, as of mid-2019, accumulated by working incessantly for almost 30 years. A significant boost to her bank account is the fact that she starred in her own show for almost a decade. If she continues making the right choices, we might see her net worth increase in the near future.
