London is a vibrant and exciting place to live with endless possibilities of ways to fill your time. But being a major city it is a hotspot for crime, including various scams in popular tourist locations.
Wandering around some of the city’s major attractions, Londoners will often ignore street performers, having seen them hundreds of times - but hoards of tourists will often stop for a moment or two of amusement. However tourists and Londoners alike are being warned of a Westminster Bridge scam which saw one man lose £400 in just two minutes.
A TikTok has been doing the rounds of a man on Westminster Bridge performing the three cups and one ball game. The aim of the game is to point at the cup hiding the ball after he moves them around. If you guess the correct cup hiding the ball you can double your money.

The video, filmed by a passer by, points out that they believe there are six people in total involved in this particular performance. As the performer does his work on the floor the remaining five individuals act disinterested before putting their money down and apparently winning time and time again. This then catches the eyes of tourists as they walk past who begin to participate in the game. Of course when it comes to their go they aren’t so lucky.
One man shared his own experience on Reddit and how his friend visiting from India lost £400. He wrote: “I have a couple of friends who’ve come from India to London for a month. I took them to see the London Eye and nearby places during the Jubilee holidays. While walking on the Westminster bridge, we saw some people doing the classic “3 cups one ball find the ball” trick and it seemed EXTREMELY simple but somehow the people were pointing at the wrong cup, me and my friends knew exactly where the ball was.”
“Seeing this, my friend got pretty excited to win money, and as soon as he started playing, every cup that he pointed, even tho the ball was supposed to be there, it just vanished and ended up in other cup. Long story short, he just gave up £400 within 2 to 3 minutes. The person vanished in thin air as we were grasping the situation in a shock.”
