The expensive skincare meets make-up trend has cemented its “here to stay” status – and now finally, an affordable option that actually works has hit the market.

Hybrid beauty became popular as a direct result of the pandemic when people forced to stay home shifted their focus from how they looked to how they feel.

After emerging from two years of lockdowns, beauty lovers who’d invested in their skin were no longer prepared to ignore its needs in order to mask their imperfections, and thus a new “hybrid” era was born.

But as anyone who has ever indulged in a trip to Mecca will know, skincare is expensive. Generally speaking, there’s a reason for this.

Specialist ingredients that treat pesky skin issues come at a cost. You can expect to pay even more if the product contains a rare ingredient, such as the white caviar found in a popular La Prairie range.

Which is why makeup, such as foundation and concealer, containing hydrating ingredients commonly came with a bougie price-tag. Until now.

Revlon, one of the world’s most loved chemist brands, has just released a new variation on its cult ColorStay Foundation, and I am not kidding when I say it is amazing.

The formula of the Revlon Illuminance Skin-Caring Foundation has been infused with hyaluronic acid, a scientifically known hydrator. It also contains five per cent squalene which actively locks in skin’s moisture.

Nica Marcello, national education manager for Revlon, told news.com.au’s The Beauty Diary the new product was perfect for time-poor individuals as “a hybrid product gives you double the benefits”.

“Skincare and makeup in one is a trend that isn’t going away anytime soon,” she said.

“If you’re in a hurry you don’t have to worry as much if you miss out on applying your skincare – your foundation has you covered in two ways.

“It’s a great time-saver and also deeply hydrates the skin which can help reduce the sign of wrinkles.”

Currently there are 16 shades available, which are described as “stretchable”, meaning they can suit a number of skin tones.

The $43 product launched in June and is sold in an array of retailers, including Woolworths, Priceline and Myer. But many have spotted it is selling at Chemist Warehouse for just $25.69.

Despite only recently hitting shelves, there has been an “overwhelmingly positive response”, Marcello revealed.

“Australia is absolutely loving it. The product is flying off the shelves with so much excitement from beauty-lovers.

“We’ve actually exceeded our expected sales results so far and can’t wait to see more and more Aussies try this skin-loving hydrating foundation.”

Why I loved the Revlon Illuminance Skin-Caring Foundation

Often when I use foundation, especially in the cooler months we’re experiencing right now, I find it can seep into the smallest little dry crack and look flaky – side note: this is why priming the skin is so important.

But Illuminance really helped alleviate that winter-related issue by penetrating below the product and improving skin while also working as a foundation.

It also has great coverage. It applies as a light medium, but builds to be full without looking cakey or thick.

Once applied, my skin looked glowy and healthy, giving a beautiful filter-like finish. It honestly gives top-tier results without stinging us where it hurts – an important detail amid the current cost of living crisis.

Just like the ColorStay products Revlon is known for, it also stays in place for hours too. I’ve been applying it when getting ready for work in the morning at about 6am, and come 9pm, it still looks fresh.

‘Better than expensive versions’

I’m not the only person who thinks this stuff is top notch, with social media already alight with five-star reviews.

“I have spent thousands of dollars on foundations. I tried this on a whim and it is absolutely the best,” one wrote on TikTok.

“I really love the finish and wore beautifully through the day,” another agreed.

“I’m obsessed with this, it’s so glow,” someone else raved.

More Coverage

As another declared: “When you find a drugstore foundation that looks better than a filter.”

If that hasn’t convinced you to give it a whirl the next time you’re on the market for a new foundation, I don’t know what will. If you do try it, send me your selfies so I can marvel at your gorgeous complexions.
