In 2008, Tara Reid tried to shed her party girl image and get healthy by checking into Promises. The Malibu rehab center is the same facility where numerous other celebrities, from Lindsay Lohan to Britney Spears, have gone to seek treatment. Originally, there were rumors that the actress was given a free stay at the rehab center as a paid promotional deal, but Fox discovered that was simply not true.

After emerging from her 60-day detox program, Reid appeared to be a new woman. Speaking with In Touch, she revealed, "I didn't like the person I was. I was sad and conflicted." Noting that "some people get forced to be in rehab," she was adamant that was not the case with her. "I went there by myself," she continued. "I put myself there. It was the greatest decision I ever made." Revealing that the hardest hurdle was her own denial, she added, "Rehab saved my life."

Sadly, her sobriety didn't last. In 2013, TMZ filmed a clearly intoxicated Reid leaving a club. In 2014, the Daily Mail shared photos of her falling outside a party in Los Angeles. In 2016, she was spotted drinking at an airport bar while her flight took off without her. By December 2018, however, Reid was working hard to overcome her demons again. As her 5th Borough co-star, Steve Stanulis, told Radar Online, "She is doing really well [...] she is in a good place."
